Drug abuse among youth has emerged as a serious social and public health concern, particularly within academic institutions where students face academic pressure, emotional stress, and peer influence. Engineering students, who represent the future technical workforce of the nation, must be equipped with awareness, knowledge, and preventive strategies to resist substance abuse and lead healthy, responsible lives. In this context, an Anti-Drug Club Orientation Seminar and Mobile Application Demonstration was organized for the students of BE/B.Tech (All Streams) at Sree Sastha Institute of Engineering and Technology. The program aimed to create awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse, promote a drug-free campus culture, and encourage students to actively participate in anti-drug initiatives. The orientation seminar provided students with valuable insights into the physical, psychological, social, and legal consequences of drug abuse.
It also emphasized the importance of self-discipline, mental well- being, and peer support in preventing substance addiction. Additionally, the role of educational institutions in fostering awareness and early intervention was highlighted. As part of the program, a mobile application demonstration was conducted to familiarize students with digital tools designed to support anti-drug awareness, reporting mechanisms, counseling resources, and real- time assistance. The integration of technology in the anti-drug movement enables students to access reliable information, seek help confidentially, and stay connected with anti-drug initiatives. Overall, this program served as a proactive step toward nurturing responsible, informed, and health- conscious students, reinforcing the institute’s commitment to social responsibility and the holistic development of its students.
